Seventh Grade Camp

For the fall of 2026 we are planning for another 7th Grade Camp, full week experience with overnights.  All of the details about dates, transportation, packing, etc. can be found below.  If you have specific questions regarding your students 7th Grade camp experience, please email Marianne Mutschler at mccamp@dexterschools.org.

Date(s): September 14-18- Students attend camp

Monday September 14: Students should arrive to Mill Creek at 8:30am.  There will be a luggage truck waiting out front of Mill Creek.  All students must load their luggage onto the truck before going to their anchor classroom.  Students will wait in their anchor classroom/mentor classroom for the buses to come and pick them up for camp (approx. 9am).  Students should not plan on riding the bus to school due to their luggage.  Parents are not permitted to walk with their student to their classroom.  

Friday September 18: Students will be back at Mill Creek at approximately 2pm.  Parents/guardians should plan on picking up their student and their luggage when they arrive.  You can arrange for another parent to pick your student up if necessary.

Required Forms

• Enrollment Form (Due February 5, 2026)

• Dietary Restrictions Form (Fill this out ONLY if your student has specific dietary restrictions for 7th grade camp)

• 7th Grade Camp Health Form (Due by May 29, 2026)

  • Forms can be dropped off in the Mill Creek office or in the Creekside office.  Students can also give their forms to their 6th grade teacher.

• $350

• All Payments can be made via Eleyo

• Payments due on or before May 29, 2026

**Early Payment Incentive: If you pay your students 7th grade camp fee in full on or before May 29, your total fee will be $350. Payments received after May 29 will be $375.

Camp Volunteers

• District Required Volunteer Form (due no later than  May 29, 2026)

Each year we need over 100 parent volunteers to make camp possible.  The different volunteer positions that need to be filled are listed below.  Please consider signing up for one (or more) positions to help make camp possible.

• Overnight Chaperones (Full Week, Monday-Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday)

  • Overnight chaperones stay in a cabin with a group of 8-12 students.  You can be placed with your student, or you can elect to stay in a different cabin than your student.  If you are the same gender as your student, you can stay in the cabin with them.  If you are the opposite gender of your student, we can place you with your student during the day for all classes, activities, and meals; but you will not be able to sleep in the cabin with your student.

• Day Volunteers (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9am-4pm)

• Evening Volunteers (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 6pm-9pm)

• Bus Volunteers (Monday 9/14 at  9am and Friday 9/18 at 11am)

• Mill Creek Morning Chaperones (Monday 9/14 at 8:00am)

For the day, evening, bus, and Monday Morning Chaperone positions, we will do our best to place you with your student, however it is not guaranteed

In order to volunteer, you must complete a district required volunteer form.  All volunteer forms are due by May 29.  Volunteers who do not complete the paperwork by 5/29 are at risk of being replaced.

Students should NOT pack medication unless it is rescue medication (ie. inhaler, epipen, diabetic supplies, etc.).  For students who require daily medication, there will be an opportunity to come to Mill Creek, meet with Ms. Mutschler, and pack your students meds for the week.  As needed medication (i.e. Tylenol, Tums, Ibuprophen, etc.) does not need to be packed, as the Mill Creek staff will have a first aid kit with OTC medication if the need should arise.  All OTC medication that we will have on hand are listed on the student health form.  You will sign, giving permission for Mill Creek staff to give your student select medication.

7th Grade Camp Objectives

• To provide students with a comprehensive Outdoor Education experience.
• To take the classroom curriculum and teach pupils environmental awareness through direct learning in the out-of-doors.
• To encourage students to develop problem solving skills.
• To encourage appropriate peer interactions.
• To facilitate and promote teamwork.

General Camp Rules

Our desire is to keep rules minimal and reasonable.  We expect them to be followed so we can have a good learning experience without discipline problems and wasted time.

1. Students will remain within the boundaries of camp at all times.

2. Students will remain within specified areas unless accompanied by a counselor.  No studentwill walk around alone.

3.  Students are absolutely restricted from entering cabins other than their own unless accompanied by an adult.

4. A boundary line separates the girls’ and boys’ cabin areas at Storer Camp.  This boundary line cannot be crossed after 9 P.M. and shouldn’t normally be crossed during the day except in the pursuit of camp activities.

5.  Students will make their own bunks and keep the cabins clean and neat. Cabins will be inspected each day by the camp leaders.

6. Students will keep their clothes in an orderly fashion.

7. Students should be aware of the need for personal hygiene; brushing teeth, clean hands at mealtime, etc.

8. Students should shower every day while at camp.  Slippers or shoes should be worn to and from the shower (for showers outside cabins).

9. Illness must be reported to a counselor immediately.

10. Students are expected to use appropriate school language and behavior at all times -- this includes all school rules as listed in the Mill Creek Handbook.

11. Students shall not litter, mark, or destroy camp property and its natural environment.

12. Students must be on time for all required activities.

13. Shoes or slippers must be worn at all times.

14. Students must stay in cabins after lights out, except for going to the bathroom.

15. Students must remain in cabins until 6:45 A.M.

16. Students will follow all stipulated waterfront rules.

17. Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are provided for safety purposes.  They will not be used inappropriately.

18. All school rules apply for the week of camp.

VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE RULES COULD RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTION.  PARENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PICK UP THEIR SON/DAUGHTER FROM CAMP IF A MAJOR, OR REPEATED, INFRACTION OF RULES OCCURS.

*VIOLATION OF RULE #3 or # 4 IS AN AUTOMATIC EXPULSION FROM CAMP.  PARENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION HOME.
